Jakub Smrz (Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati) posted a brave and committed lap time of 2'02.138 to take the top spot in the first free practice session at a fully wet Miller Motorsports Park today, ending up over two seconds ahead of the next quickest rider, Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport).

In truly atrocious conditions at this fast circuit Sylvain Guintoli (Team Effenbert Liberty Racing Ducati) scored third place with Italian rider Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet) fourth.

World Champion and Miller favourite Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) went fifth. The first official practice session takes place later this afternoon.
